Moisture resistant backer boards differ significantly from waterproof backboards. Moisture-proof backboards primarily block moisture and humidity, absorbing none or only slowly. They are primarily used in environments with a relative humidity of 60%-80%.

Polymer Membrane Composite Moisture resistant Backer board

Material Composition

0.2-0.5mm high-density polyethylene (HDPE) membrane composite ceramsite foam core layer, with alkali-resistant glass fiber mesh cloth on both sides.

Structural Advantages

HDPE membrane water vapor transmission rate <1.5g/(㎡·24h), closed-cell foam core layer water absorption rate <0.8%, weight only 3-5kg/㎡, combining moisture-proof and lightweight characteristics.

Cement-Based Moisture resistant Backer board

Material Composition

Made by high-pressure steam curing of Portland cement, quartz sand, and alkali-resistant fibers (6-12mm thick).

Structural Advantages

High-density porous structure with strong impermeability, bond strength with cement mortar ≥1.0MPa, can bear tile weight of 30-40kg/㎡, suitable for heavy-duty paving.

Metal-Based Moisture resistant Backer board

Material Composition

Aluminum alloy skeleton composite butyl rubber waterproof membrane, with anti-corrosion coating on the surface.

Structural Advantages

High impact resistance (can withstand 5kg falling ball impact from 1m), resistant to acid and alkali corrosion, suitable for industrial humid environments or long-term underwater areas.

Moisture resistant backer boards are typically used in conjunction with ceramic tiles. Our goal is to leverage their basic moisture-resistant properties to support the tiles, ensuring a secure, long-lasting tile installation without hollowing or falling off, and preventing moisture penetration and damage to the base layer. Many users are concerned about choosing the right size. The moisture resistant backer board measures 1220mm × 2440mm × 1300mm, which clearly doesn't match the tile dimensions. Different applications require different thicknesses. For example, bathrooms and kitchens generally use 12mm thick tiles, but the size should be tailored to your needs. For smaller spaces requiring 600×1200mm tiles, a 6mm thickness can save 0.012 m²/m² while also addressing moisture issues. Furthermore, the moisture resistant backer board supports the marble countertop base, resisting oil penetration and making it easy to clean, simplifying installation time in humid environments.
