Pretreatment

When installing waterproofing board, ensure the wall base is flat, dry, and free of moisture. Our standard requirement is a moisture content of ≤10%. Cracks and hollows in the base should be repaired to avoid gaps, as gaps are a trap for moisture.

Joint Sealing

For joints, double-layer waterproofing is required. This means that the joints between the boards should be covered with a flexible waterproof adhesive and then sealed with waterproof tape. This effectively prevents moisture from seeping through the joints. Corner joints require extra care. We recommend using specialized waterproof tape for a tighter joint.

Avoid contact with heat sources

During installation, first check the area for heat sources such as water heaters, bathroom heaters, and televisions. Ensure the installation is at least 30 cm away from heat sources.

If heat sources are necessary, high-temperature-resistant 6mm waterproof board is recommended to prevent softening and deformation caused by long-term high-temperature use.

Choosing the right material and application for the right application, 6mm waterproof board offers the best value for money. However, this isn't the case. 6mm waterproofing isn't suitable for all secondary renovations. While it certainly offers significant advantages, there are also some situations where it's not suitable.

Impossible: Due to its thinness, it won't damage the existing substrate during use. For example, if old tiles, drywall, or cement walls aren't cracked, they can be directly attached to the existing substrate with a special adhesive, eliminating the need for reinforcement, saving significant costs. Older homes often have smaller spaces, such as small bathrooms. If the space is further compressed, the 6mm thickness barely impacts the actual usable space, and it's easy to cut, allowing for use in unusual environments.

So, what other scenarios aren't suitable for 6mm waterproof board?

Damaged base

If the hollow rate of old tiles exceeds 10%, the drywall is damp and moldy, or the cement wall is cracked, waterproofing should not be applied directly. 6mm waterproofing has poor load-bearing capacity and will deform over time, affecting its performance.
