Currently, mainstream waterproof wall backing boards on the market typically use XPS (extruded polystyrene) high-density foam core material as the inner lining, bonded to inorganic reinforcing mortar layers on both sides with a special interface agent.

Its waterproofing mechanism does not rely solely on the coating barrier, but rather on the hydrophobic properties of its physical structure. The XPS core material has a dense closed-cell structure with extremely low water absorption (typically below 1%), effectively blocking liquid water penetration and gaseous water migration. The surface reinforcing mortar layer provides the necessary roughness and tensile bond strength, ensuring reliable adhesion of the finishing layer (tiles, stone). This "rigid-flexible" structure distinguishes it from traditional cement fiberboard or gypsum board.

Furthermore, because the board itself does not absorb water, it avoids the problem of excessively long drying periods caused by cement boards saturating during construction.

The internal extruded polystyrene core material has a low thermal conductivity, providing stable thermal insulation. It can alleviate condensation and dripping on cold, damp walls in basements and ground floors. The foamed core layer also reduces noise transmission; when used to wrap drainage pipes, it effectively reduces the noise generated by water flow, providing simple sound insulation. The entire production process uses raw materials free of formaldehyde, halogens, and other harmful substances, with no pungent odor. It meets domestic and international environmental standards for indoor building materials, allowing for use in apartments and hotels after bulk renovations without prolonged ventilation. The board's internal dry and airtight structure makes it difficult for mold and insects to attach and grow, maintaining a stable and clean substrate even in long-term sealed and humid environments.
